Chris Hemsworth stars as an Australian black ops mercenary, Tyler Rake, in the Netflix action thriller Extraction.
The plot involves Chris Hemsworth's character killing a bunch of bad guys during his mission to rescue the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord.
Is the plot original? Maybe not. Is it entertaining watching Chris Hemsworth run through Dhaka, Bangladesh reducing the entire Bangladeshi police force into a bloody mess? You bet ya!
Haven't watched in on Netflix yet? Check out the trailer below to get up to speed. You get some nice glimpses of Chris's watch too...
The action scenes are very well choreographed, even if the body count can be a little over the top at times. Check out the Tweet from the writer Joe Russo for a behind-the-scenes view of how the fight scenes were choreographed:
The theme of redemption runs strong throughout Extraction. The loss of Tyler's son plays a large role in many of the choices he makes throughout the film, but particularly towards the climactic end.
Extraction is based on the graphic novel 'Ciudad', which was originally set in Paraguay, South America. They moved locations to Dhaka, Bangladesh, because it was a 'fresh' location. I think this was a good move because Extraction already has a strong Man on Fire feel to it.
I watched Extraction last night on Netflix, and I'm still not entirely sure what to think about the ending. Was that Tyler watching over Ovi in the pool at the end of the movie? Or does this person represent Tyler's spirit looking after Ovi? Or was that just a random person, or worse, one of Amir's gangbangers sent to finish the job? I don't know!
Probably the most meaningful question is whether Tyler survived his barrage of bullets and fall off the bridge into the water, setting up for a possible Extraction 2?
Time will tell.
But, what is clear is that there was a lot of incredible stunt action that went into Extraction. Check out this quick video from Chris showing one of the biggest falls in the movie:
Quite happy to let the completely insane experts handle this particular shot! Our stunt team risked their lives and pushed their bodies to get some of these shots, and it’s truly incredible to see. The movie wouldn’t have been possible without these guys

Given Chris' character is a black ops mercenary, his watch of choice is hardly a surprise. Chris Hemsworth wears a G-Shock Rangeman 9400 in Extraction. You get plenty of good views of the army green Rangeman throughout the movie:
G-Shocks are clear favorites amongst law enforcement officers and military personnel because they are incredibly tough. As the name suggests, they can withstand considerable shocks and Casio actually drops them 10m to test this.
The Rangeman 9400 Master of G comes with a range of features including solar power, compass, altimeter and thermometer.
The compass feature would have certainly come in handy for Tyler Rake when he was making his way around Dhaka in a hurry. But, I don't think he would have made much use of the altimeter or thermometer.
The large buttons on the Rangeman 9400 make it easy to switch between functions and the negative display means that Tyler was less likely to give his position away in those critical moments leading up to fight.
Also handy is the sunrise/sunset feature which tells you when the sun will rise or fall given your location. Obviously a much needed tool for someone in Tyler's position when it might be important to move at night (or day) for safety.
Water is no issue for the Rangeman, with care taken on the seals to ensure water, dirt and mud cannot enter the watch. Clearly needed during that awful sewer scene where they spend more then enough time for nasties to potentially infiltrate and destroy a lesser watch.
With 200m water resistance, the watch would most likely have survived Tyler's dramatic fall from the bridge into the water. But did Tyler survive? Hmmm.
Bottom line is we think the G-Shock Rangeman was the perfect choice for Chris Hemsworth to wear in Extraction: It's incredibly durable, a little bulky, will keep on going and comes with many features.
Given the affordability of the Rangeman 9400, you don't need to be a highly paid mercenary to buy one.

Bradley Cooper plays Brian Gilcrest, a military pilot contractor that needs to return to Hawaii to oversee the traditional blessing of a pedestrian gate. This gate is important to billionaire Carson Welch’s (Bill Murray) plans to construct a space centre nearby.
On arrival in Hawaii, Brian finds his ex-girlfriend Tracy (Rachel McAdams) married with two kids. One of which he later finds out is actually his daughter.
Emma Stone plays Captain Allison Ng, a young spritely “quarter Hawaiian” love interest that shares the same fascination with space and exploration as Brian did as a youngster. Brian would eventually turn his affections from Tracy to Allison.
Whilst generally considered a box-office flop (generating $26 million at a cost of $52 million), I really enjoyed seeing Bradley Cooper wear a watch he clearly admires, in a plot line that makes complete sense for him do do so (ie a pilot wearing a pilot watch).
Cooper wears the statement watch throughout the movie. There’s actually few scenes where he doesn’t wear it. This wasn’t some prop decision, this is most likely Cooper’s personal watch as he is a long-time fan of IWC.
He’s been spotted wearing the exact same watch multiple times, including to the tennis with Gerrard Butler and to the movie premier of the Guardians of the Galaxy (both below):
In 2018, IWC decided to cement their relationship with Cooper by making him an official brand ambassador saying:
“With his pursuit of quality and creativity, he is a perfect match for IWC”
The IWC Big Pilot is an impressive watch that incorporates vintage 1930’s design into a practical, well designed iconic timepiece. If you like larger watches and have a good sized budget to spend, this is definitely worth adding to your shortlist.
Want to pull off a similar look to the IWC Big Pilot, but don’t have that sort of cash handy? Then, the Citizen Eco-Drive Avion is a great choice. Featuring a slightly smaller size of 45mm and also in stainless steel, this watch might be the sensible introduction to big watches you need before investing in something more expensive.
You’re probably familiar with the Denzel Washington film adaptation, and potentially even own a Suunto Core Ultimate Black like that worn in the Equalizer movies. But, have you taken the time to pay tribute to the original 80’s series, also titled, The Equalizer?
There’s a lot of great old school action in the 5 seasons of The Equalizer series. Edward Woodward plays Robert McCall who atones for his past by helping others that find him through his newspaper ads: “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer. 212 555 4200.”
There’s certainly less action and violence in the original TV series, but some have argued the story and plot of the original surpasses anything the first two Equalizer movies have offered.
The watches worn by the main characters in each provides a nice reflection on the different takes the directors have taken. The elegant, simple gold time piece worn by Edward Woodward suits his refined character. Where as the digital military style watch worn by Denzel fits his precise and practical portrayal of Robert McCall.
Who wore it better – Edward or Denzel? Let me know in the comments below.
We remember seeing Denzel Washington wearing a Suunto Core Ultimate Black in the first installment of The Equalizer. But there has been some heated controversy over whether the watch he wears in the second movie is actually the same model. In the Equalizer 2, the mysterious and elusive Robert McCall (Denzel) comes back to deliver the vigilante justice expected. This time, however, McCall’s past cuts especially close to home when thugs kill Susan Plummer — his best friend and former colleague. Now out for revenge, McCall must take on a crew of highly trained assassins who’ll stop at nothing to destroy him.
We get to see him using his stopwatch to check how long to complete his kills as he does in the original. Upon closer inspection, it does indeed look like the same trusty watch he used in the first movie -- the Suunto Core Ultimate Black. However, the stopwatch feature of Denzel’s watch looks different from the original Suunto. Here is a nice video that explains the differences between the original version and the one shown in the movie.
The watch itself is made to keep pace with a very energetic lifestyle. It features an array of gadgets perfect for those of us that are in the military, are super active, or have secret aspirations to stop assassins… The built in compass, depth measurement, altimeter & barometer will all come in handy during your (and my) next secret mission. The sleek black design camouflages well with most surroundings (other colors are also available). We certainly think it’s one of the better digital watches available today. So, despite the controversies over whether the stopwatch feature does actually belong to the Suunto Core or whether it’s digitally enhanced, we still think the Suunto Core Ultimate Black is a great option to consider for your next athletic watch. Vigilant justice is optional!!
TAG Heuer Link Chronograph in The Bourne Quadrilogy.Jason Bourne (Played by Matt Damon) wears a
Jason Bourne is the main protagonist in a series of novels written originally by Robert Ludlum, and then continued on Eric Van Lustbader on the event of Mr. Ludlum’s death.
In 2002 the first of the Jason Bourne novels -- The Bourne Identity -- was adapted to a featured film bearing the same name and staring Matt Damon as the titular anti-hero Jason Bourne. Bourne is the pseudonym of secret Treadstone agent David Webb, who suffers from a bout of amnesia and must work quickly to piece his life together.
After falling off the grid and losing his memory, Agent Webb loses contact with the CIA and his handler in the Treadstone program. They -- incorrectly -- assume that he has betrayed his country and send men after him. Webb himself thinks he is his cover identity -- Jason Bourne -- and doesn’t understand why people are after him.
Once he learns of his real identity and the massive overreach of the Treadstone program and the CIA, Bourne spends the rest of the series attempting to dismantle the agency, who in turn tries to destroy him.
Starting in that film and moving through the original trilogy (The Bourne Identity, Supremacy, & Ultimatum) and the latest fifth installment (Jason Bourne), Damon is seen wearing the same TAG Heuer Link Chronograph. Whilst Tag have never publicly endorsed or acknowledged the model used, it is believed the exact model worn by Bourne is the Tag Heuer Link CT1111.BA0550, which was only in production for a couple of years (circa 2001) and is regularly hunted down by watch collectors and Bourne fans alike, making this model of the Link difficult to find.
The TAG Heuer Link Chronograph is a clean, professional watch put out by the TAG Heuer company that looks to stack up against watches like the Omega Seamaster. The Link Chronograph features a 42mm stainless steel case and stainless band with a uniquely molded link, giving the watch a signature look.
The entire watch is stainless steel silver with a black face and silver lettering. The TAG Heuer logo is located at the twelve o’clock position. As the name states, it is a chronograph watch with chronograph functions. The chronographic complications include a twelve hour, sixty second, and 1/10th of a second hands located at the 10 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 2 o’clock positions, respectively.
The watch also features an easy to read date complication between the 4 and 5 positions. All of the hour markers are silver ticks with luminescent dots above them, and smaller luminescent ticks that serve as minute markers. The bezel is unidirectional with a luminescent dot at the top position.
The Link Chronograph has a sapphire crystal that is glare and scratch resistant for easy reading and runs on a swiss quartz engine -- so it will require a battery, but won’t lose time like an automatic watch.
The TAG Heuer Link Chronograph that Jason Bourne wears is rated water resistance at a depth of 20 BAR/200Meters -- or 660 feet. It is rated for recreational scuba use and should be just fine to take swimming.
All in all, the TAG Heuer Link Chronograph is an impressive watch fit for use by impressive individuals such as Jason Bourne -- and you! And coming in at $2,485.00 it is about a third of the price you’d pay for a Bond watch!
The below scene of Jason escaping the embassy in the Bourne Identity is one of the best scenes to checkout the Tag Link in action!
The films center around retired assassin John Wick -- who just wants to be left alone after his wife dies, but keeps getting drawn back into the seedy underworld of assassins. The films take places within 4 days of each other, according to the writers and directors, and really tell one long story.
After Wick’s wife dies, he is given a puppy to keep him company. Between that and his car, he has enough to at least keep him occupied. That is, until some thugs steal his car and kill his dog. Wick goes on a rampage destroying a Russian mob boss and his entire family in revenge. In Chapter 2, word of John’s rampage gets around and causes some folks to come knocking, forcing him to pick up his guns again and shoot his way back to retirement.
In the movies, Wick is seen wearing a $8,695.00 . Carl F. Bucherer is a Swiss watch maker that is based in Lucerne and was founded in 1888. The Manero AutoDate is a beautiful brushed 18 karat rose gold watch with a 42mm case and a sapphire crystal.
This luxurious watch features the Carl F. Bucherer logo at the 12 o’clock position, and a date complication at the 3 o’clock position. The hands and indices are all made out of rose gold, with the hands having the distinction of being luminescent. The watch also features luminescent dot markers at each of the hour indices.
Because the watch features a self winding automatic engine (CFB 1950 caliber movement), the second hand sweeps the face instead of ticking. The watch is able to carry a reserve power of 38 hours, and is water resistant to 3 atmospheres (about 30 meters, or 100 feet).
The crystal sapphire is scratch resistant and comes with an anti-reflective coating on both sides to help cut out the glare during day use, making the watch easy and comfortable to read.
The strap is brown alligator leather with a rose gold pin and buckle. This beautiful watch is classy, stylish, and perfect for any assassin looking to leave an impression. This watch can be purchased on Amazon for $8,695.00 , and shipped directly to you, so you don’t need to go on a murderous rampage just to get one!
We know the dog scene is heartbreaking, so we loved seeing the dog get his revenge in the parody “Dog Wick” shown below. Go doggo!
It is not very often that a watch takes on such a big role in a movie. However, the character that Ryan Gosling plays in Drive is based on a very particular book character. The character is not someone that owns a lot, but he was passed down a great watch from his father that he treasured. Obviously, that means that the watch really needs to stand out in the film. The classic Patek Phillipe watch that Gosling is wearing in the film is absolutely the perfect choice.
This is not a watch that you can go out and buy, because it is not an actual model for sale. The actual watch is a very simple model, with a classic look and a brown leather strap. Gosling does not actually wear the original watch that much in the film because the intensity of the stunts would have broken it. There were a few replicas built to handle the stunts. The reason the watch stands out so much in the film is because it is very different from the big driving watches that are normally worn by stunt drivers. This is a simple looking, classic style watch that is very believable as something that would be passed from father to son.
This watch is small, which helps it complement the personality of the character because of his desire to keep things simple. There are very few features on the watch, though it does have a sub-dial with a seconds hand. The character in the movie has to keep track of five-minute time periods before criminals return to his car, which would make a chronograph function extremely useful for the work that he is doing.
Overall this is a watch that is focused on looking great and not being too flashy. Since it is a rather expensive timepiece, it is perfect to imagine it being a family heirloom and the character’s one truly prized possession. Since it is so crucial to Gosling’s character in the film, the watch truly takes on a shining role, which is incredible for such an understated piece of technology.
The reason this watch surprises many people, is because Denzel is playing a pilot, so it might be assumed that he is going to be wearing something more expensive and luxurious. Despite the fact that he is not strapped for cash, Whitaker is wearing a rather inexpensive Timex watch that is not too flashy. The watch itself is black, has a black strap and has the look of the classic, durable watch.
The Timex Expedition Rugged Analog T49831 is a watch that you can find easily that provides incredible style, durability, and performs well, but it is also incredibly affordable. This men’s watch from Timex is perfect for anybody that needs a watch that can endure tough work or spending time in the great outdoors. With its clear numbering on the outside for every 5 minute/second mark, and all of the even hours marked in bold white, you will never have any trouble checking the time.
With a digital date window to help you keep track of the day, luminous hands to help you see what time it is even in the darker lighting, and even more so the indiglo night light keeping it visible at all times. With a black resin case, a black resin strap, and a crisp buckle clasp, you can always count on it to be comfortable and durable under any circumstances.
The strap for the Timex Expedition Rugged Analog T49831 is 10” long and provides a nice fit for almost everyone. Its features include being water resistant for up to 50 meters, so it is great for swimming, or any other water related activities. I am sure that Denzel’s character did not want to think about landing a plane on water, but if he had to swim, he would have been prepared.
As was mentioned before, this watch is great for the adventures that life brings. One of the best ways that this watch lends itself to the person on the go is that beyond its durability, it also has great readability. With large numbering, a clear hour hand, minute hand, and second hand it has one of the easiest analog displays for anyone to read no matter what they are doing. Taking it one step further, this incredible and affordable watch is just as easy to read at night. Providing you with an indiglo night light and luminous hands, you can perfectly read this watch at night. This easy readability in the dark was probably another thing that a pilot like Whitaker enjoyed, and if you know that character, the easy readability was a must!
One thing that has not been mentioned yet is the rotating bezel feature on the Timex Expedition Rugged Analog T49831. This is great for anyone that needs to keep track of short periods of time easily, and with the simple analog reads on this watch you can do this easier than ever. It was likely a great feature for a pilot that needs to keep track of the time intervals involved in a flight. Since the watch is also water resistant for up to 50 meters, you might like the rotating bezel to help keep swimming times as well. This watch is clearly a wonderful and reliable option for someone looking for a clean and professional looking watch. The most surprising thing about the Timex Expedition Rugged Analog T49831 is that it is so incredibly affordable. You can find this watch for $32.00 and there is nothing better in the world of watches than finding one that performs at a high level and is not going to make your wallet too light. This watch is perfect for pretty much any budget, and because it is so incredibly durable, you are not going to have to replace it anytime soon.
In the movie, Reynolds plays Wilson, a mercenary who gets a cancer diagnosis shortly after falling in love. In order to save his own life and be with the woman he loves, he volunteers for a black-market operation to make himself a self-healing mutant. His healing factor fights the cancer and keeps him alive, but it also horribly disfigures him in the process and drives him mentally insane.
The character has a huge appeal on the internet for being a bit of a jackass and is known for continually breaking the fourth wall. This played out very well in the movie and made it insanely popular. So popular, in fact, it raked in $760,000,000 on a $50,000,000 budget.
In the movie, DeadPool can be spotted wearing a watch while in a cab with driver Dopinder.
This is sad to me because the watch he’s wearing is a kid’s Adventure Time watch. This is a quartz movement, plastic case, plastic or rubber strapped $20 timepiece. It’s made for kids under 10 years old who enjoy a cartoon.
But now, because it’s the “DeadPool watch“, you will be hard pressed to find one for less than . There is absolutely no quality to this watch. It was made to be worn by children who would, I assume, break it within a matter of months, whereupon it would be replaced easily by their parents because it’s just a cheap, plastic kids watch.
In fact, as one reviewer of the watch on Amazon points out, you can’t even swap the battery on it, you simply have to buy a new one when the battery dies. The reviewer also points out that his son had one of these watches, and it broke, and he can no longer replace it because the movie turned it into a novelty item.
The cheapest one I could find was on amazon (here).
If you’re looking to buy this watch for a cosplay, it may be worth it do you. It might be better to get a broken one off of eBay, or something similar though. If you’re looking for a watch for your children, this will unfortunately not be the one.
