The F16473/1 by Festina is not currently available for retail sale, so you would have to find one used. The Quartz ref. F16486/2 by Festina, however, is a very close relative that achieves the same look and feel as the watch in our photo and comes in at a very reasonable $100.Festina Quartz Men’s watch is a 45mm quartz movement watch with a magnified date display at the 3 o’Clock mark and an independent second hand at the 6 o’clock mark. It is water resistant to 5 bars, or about 50 meters. The crystal that faces the watch is a mineral crystal composite, an affordable crystal to put on a watch. The structured dial is illuminated fluorescent green in the dark, and the strap is leather in an alligator pattern.
As watches go, this is a wonderful piece to own. It gives the look and feel of a luxury watch without the high price tag. If you’re throwing on some khakis and a polo and heading out and need a simple, functional, and stylish watch, you won’t go wrong with a Festina Quartz. It makes for a great every day wear and because of its inexpensive price tag, you won’t be too bothered by any scratches or scuffs that may occur. You may find that the crystal scratches, and you will be replacing a battery every so often, but if either of these ever gets unbearable, you can always swap it out for a new one as they’re very affordable watches.
All in all we think the watch is stylish and it makes for a great header picture. If you’re looking for an inexpensive daily wear that will last for quite a little while, we recommend the Festina Quartz.
Tony Star wears the Bvlgari Men’s Diagono Chronograph in Iron Man.
Genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark must obviously wear a pretty amazing watch, right? At first guess I assumed he wore a custom job, sort of like Bond’s TV watch, that would allow him to communicate with J.A.R.V.I.S., or control his Iron Man suits. But it turns out that he actually just wears a regular watch, and not even a particularly expensive one. That fits with Stark’s personality, though. He is incredibly wealthy, but very pragmatic. As an engineer he puts a value on function, and the Bvlgari Diagono Chronograph is the perfect blend of style and capability.
The Diagono Chronograph has a stainless steel case and comes standard with a black leather band. The watch features Arabic numerals to mark the 6 and 12 o’clock positions, with date displays between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. Because it’s the Chronograph model, it has two sub-dials displaying 30 minutes and 60 seconds. The bezel is fixed stainless steel that is engraved with the Bulgari brand, “Bvlgari”. The watch is faced with scratch resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The Diagono Chronograph is rated water resistant at 30 meters (about 100 feet).
Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) wore a Rolex Day-Date President in The Sopranos.
The Sopranos was an HBO hit series and was one of the first successful TV shows to get the audience to cheer on a villain as the main character. Without James Gandolfini’s amazing and award-winning work as Tony Soprano, we would never get to see amazing and complex characters in shows like Deadwood or Breaking Bad. I would even say that the show paved the way for lesser, but still popular successors, like Dexter Morgan.
Of course, running a top mafia family can be tough work, and you need a watch that is both durable and stylish. Something that is function as both a timepiece and a status symbol. Soprano had that in the $29,000.00 Rolex Day-Date President.Day-Date President is an 18 karat gold watch (band and casing) with an anti-reflective sapphire face over an analog display. The watch is automatic and self winding, never requiring batteries, and is rated to be waterproof at 100m (330 feet).
The watch carries a high price tag for several reasons. The sapphire crystal is quite an expensive way to face a watch, not to mention the fact that every visible surface of this particular watch is made from 18 karat gold. The Day-Date President features both the day and the date displayed at the 12 o’clock and 3 o’clock positions, respectively.
This is an exquisitely crafted and beautiful timepiece and one that’s well worth having in your collection – if you can afford it.
Macgyver was most commonly seen wearing the Timex Camper Watch. If you were a kid in the seventies, eighties, and early 90s, you probably loved Macgyver. The guy was known for being able to build anything he needed out of whatever was available to aid him in whatever situation he got trapped in. This ability of his has spawned all manner of ridiculous meme across the internet and even its own popular phrase: To “Macgyver” something together. Angus Macgyver was a secret government agent and scientist who solved problems with his swiss army knife, scientific resourcefulness, and a limitless supply of moxie.
The watch that was featured on his wrist most frequently was then called the Timex Military Field watch, but has since been rebranded as the “Timex Camper Watch“. The Camper Watch is a simple, 35mm plastic case watch with a nylon strap. The watch features quartz movement and an analog display powered by a single battery. Perhaps the most confusing aspect of this little timepiece is that it has a water glyph clearly printed on it, and is listed as a “rugged outdoor watch”, but is absolutely not water resistant. This is a perfect watch if you’re looking to dress up as Macgyver, or if you just need something quick and simple to get you through the day.
John Glenn wore a TAG Heuer Stopwatch 2915A in space. The watch that Glenn wore was made as a stopwatch so that he could record specific intervals of time while in the Friendship 7. The watch itself was manufactured by TAG Heuer to be a stop watch and was the first Swiss Made watch in space. There were no special modifications needed for the watch to function properly in space, though Glenn did have a special elastic band fitted to the watch so it could be worn outside of his space suit.
The original Heuer Reference 2915A is no longer in production as such, but TAG Heuer has released a similar model in the Carrera. The Carrera is a 41.5mm stainless steel watch with an anti-reflective sapphire face. It is rated as waterproofed up to 100m (330 feet). This makes the watch a practical choice for a day at the pool or beach, but unsuitable for diving. If you’re looking to sport a watch with the same spirit and character that John Glenn took into space, you’ll want to pick up the TAG Heuer Carrera.
Bill Clinton wears a Rolex Datejust.
The Rolex Datejust is a self winding chronometer wristwatch and was the first wristwatch in the world to feature and automatically changing date, hence the name “Datejust“. The watch was initially introduced in 1945 with either the Jubilee wristband, or the classic Oyster band. It became a very popular watch and Rolex soon released a ladies version, smaller than the original 36mm. The Datejust has a special history with the US Airforce. A special Turn-o-graph model was commissioned and given to airmen who returned from successful combat missions. It was one of these models that Chuck Yeager wore when he broke the sound barrier. Rolex has since used the watch’s popularity to base 3 more models on its design: The Explorer, Submariner, and Sea Dweller.
The model that President Clinton wears is an 18 Karat gold version of the Perpetual Oyster Datejust – a 41mm watch with rotating bezel. While the Datejust usually sells for between $6,000 and $8,000 new, with the 18k gold version retailing at over $10,000, making it one of the most expensive Presidential Watches.
Grant Cardone also wears the Panerai Luminor Submersible. Panerai is a luxury Swiss watchmaker founded in 1860 in Florence, Italy. “Swiss Made“, in terms of watches, doesn’t necessarily refer to the country of origin, but rather the engine of the watch and it’s movement type. Watches that use Swiss movement techniques can be considered ‘Swiss Made‘. The Luminor Submersible series is a beautiful mechanical, automatic movement watch with a polished steel casing and a brushed steel bezel. The face of the watch has Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 with luminescent dots at 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, and 11. The 3 mark has an automatic changing date display, and the 9 mark has the second hand. The Luminor Submersible comes with a removable black rubber strap, adding to the sporty appeal of the timepiece, and a sapphire crystal face that allows the watch to withstand a pressure of 30 bars – effectively waterproofing the watch to about 300 meters.
No box is complete without two or three Panerai.
Grant Cardone used to wear the Rolex Yachtmaster 16628. Grant Cardone saw our post about him and enjoyed it so much he reached out and gave us a few other personal recommendations. When he isn’t wearing his Bvlgari, one of the watches Grant used to enjoy was his Rolex Yachtmaster.
The Yachtmaster was first released in 1992 in an 18 karat gold casing. Due to its popularity and demand, Rolex released a lady’s version of the watch in 1994. That year would also see Rolex release the Yachtmaster watch in a mid-size man’s size, marking the first time in their history that Rolex released a professional watch in a smaller professional size. 1996 would see the release of a mix stainless steel and gold Yachtmaster, with the Platinum Yachtmaster rolling out the year after, 1997. The final change to the Yachtmaster would come in 2000 when Rolex discontinued the 1996 two-toned version, replacing it with a sturdier two-tone Yachtmaster with gold links – the links on the previous version were hollow.
I owned this one for 20 years.
George W. Bush wore a Timex Easy Reader while in office. While most presidential watches clock in somewhere around the $1,500 mark, there are a few that do not. Barack Obama’s mainstay watch, the Jorg Gray Chronograph 6500, for example, is only $200. On the other hand, Bill Clinton’s Rolex is reportedly somewhere near $10,000. Other than these few aberrations, however, we consistently see Presidential watches hit between $1,500 and $3,000. Enter President George W. Bush, whose Timex Easy Reader is hands down the most cost effective presidential watch, coming in at just under $25.
The Easy Reader has a bold face that stands out with large numbers for, well, easy reading. The engine is Quartz movement and runs on a lithium metal battery and has a plastic ‘crystal’ over an analog display. If you want to say you wear a president’s choice in watch, but don’t have $1,000 to throw at it, this very well may be the one for you.
Denzel wears a Suunto Core All Black in The Equalizer.
The Equalizer is a movie adaptation of a novel and TV series by the same name starring Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz.
Denzel plays Robert McCall, a former spy and hitman who faked his own death and quietly retired. He spends his nights reading at a small diner and engaging the patrons in conversation, one of whom is Alina, a prostitute. The Russian mob boss that “owns” Alina beats her so bad that she’s put in the ICU, sending McCall on a mission of revenge. It is an absolutely amazing movie and spawned a solid sequel (including a controversy over the exact watch worn by Denzel).
The Suunto Core All Black is a men’s digital athletic watch. The watch itself is made to keep pace with a very energetic lifestyle. Featuring a built in altimeter, barometer, and compass, it’s the perfect choice if you’re in the military, or happen to be a retired assassin with a heart of gold. The design is sleek, modern and has an easy to ready detailed aluminium bezel. However, the watch is digital, which means that you will inevitably have to replace the battery after the factory supplied one eventually wears out.
We are big fans of the entire Suunto Core range for those that are after a robust, feature packed watch, but don’t want to break the bank on one purchase.
The stopwatch in the movies use a large number display as shown above. Your Suunto Core All Black won’t have this exact display, but you will have the luxury of having several other features displayed within the stopwatch setting.
